I liked it a lot better on this watch through. I have accepted that it is the Ian and Barbara show and I'm here for it.

Susan helped rescue everyone! One thing I appreciate in these two middle episodes is the focus on the other characters while The Doctor is away. In the previous part, we were treated to Barbara and Ian working on their own, and here it's those two with actual help from Susan, which may be the first time since she navigated the petrified jungle to fetch the medicine in The Daleks. I'm also loving the swift location-hopping in this story and the sense of actual menace from anything and everything around them - acid oceans, sentient vegetation, roving wolves, bitter cold, booby traps...

SUSAN: "Hey, look at these weapons. Wouldn't like to come across one of these in a battle... He's alive! He's alive!"
This was even more boring than the last episode. We need a better adversary.

Ok, the story wasn't that bad. But them creating new little stories within the story isn't a good narrative trick. It works in small doses like in Marco Polo but there it's just too much.
And I know Hartnell had health problems but having no doctor for 2 whole episodes is a bit annoying.

The doctor was on his two weeks holidays during the filming of these two episodes. Honest, it was in his contract. I think the other regulars only got one week off per series.

Vasor's not a creepy guy at all by my first impression, lol. If there is a rope bridge, it won't last long.

Not sure why they needed Vasor to guide them in the mountain (apart from him being in the right position to betray them AGAIN), when he made it clear that he never goes there.
